It’s quick to assemble, takes up very little space, and you can use almost any ornaments you already have at home!

The final Christmas decor trend I’m loving is adding flowers to a Christmas tree.

Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of people adding dried or faux hydrangea bunches to their Christmas trees, and I have to say I love how full and lush it makes the tree look!

I haven’t tried hydrangeas myself, but I have added faux poinsettias, and they make my Christmas tree look extra festive!

• Make sure to use flowers in different sizes. This helps give your tree dimension and makes it look more natural.

Trust me, a Christmas tree collar sounds more complex than what it actually is!

A Christmas tree collar is a decorative cover that wraps around the base of your tree to hide the stand and give it a clean, finished look.

We have an artificial Christmas tree we use yearly, so I love using a woven tree collar to conceal the tree’s metal legs.

Plus, the tree collar actually prevents kids or pets from getting too close to the tree and causing unwanted accidents!

I’m a big fan of tree collars because they’re generally sturdier and more durable than a tree skirt.

I’m also a bit of a neat freak, so I love that a tree collar always looks neat and structured, unlike a tree skirt which may look a bit messy from time to time and will need constant adjusting.

I ended up choosing a black woven tree collar which I’ve used for four years and counting!

It feels timeless and works beautifully with both my neutral Christmas décor and a traditional red Christmas!

Using a real tree? Don’t worry, you can still use a tree collar for a real tree! You just need to make sure the collar fits around your tree stand and that you can still reach in to water your tree.

How To Put On A Tree Collar On A Tree

Before purchasing a tree collar, you should measure the diameter and height of your tree stand to make sure the tree collar can fit comfortably around it.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure the base of your tree stand isn’t wider than the base of your tree collar.

Once you’ve bought a tree collar, set up and place the tree collar where you want the tree to stand.

Then, place your tree stand right in the center of the tree collar and secure your tree in the stand.

If you’re using a real tree, make sure there’s enough space around for access to watering.

You may also want to get a waterproof or water-resistant tree collar like plastic/synthetic rattan or metal, so it doesn’t get damaged if water spills.

After the tree is secured in the stand, you can adjust the collar pieces to make sure they sit closely around the stand’s base.

Once you’re happy with the collar placement, you can clip or latch to secure the tree collar.

If needed, you can fluff the tree branches to make sure the tree stand is hidden completely.

I recommend getting a tree collar that comes in parts rather than one-piece for easy assembly and storage. But, if you have a tree collar that is in one solid piece like me, always set up and place the collar down before assembling your tree. Otherwise, you’ll have to lift your tree slightly to slide it underneath, which can be dangerous especially if you have children or pets!

Last year, it was my first time hosting Christmas brunch for my family in my apartment, and I really wanted something festive and memorable for my little nieces.

So, I went down the traditional red and green Christmas decor route and styled a traditional red Christmas tablescape for brunch.

(I don’t even know why it took me so long to embrace a classic Christmas – Home Alone is my favorite Christmas movie after all!)

I LOVED how the red Christmas table decor instantly made my home feel warm, inviting and effortlessly festive.

As with all of my tablescapes, this one didn’t cost a fortune.

In this post, I’m sharing all of the photos I captured of my traditional red Christmas table setting and all of my budget-friendly table styling tips you’ll need to recreate this look.

P.S. I always set my table the day before so I can snap some pretty photos of the table setting while everything’s still neat and untouched. Because let’s be real… once the food comes out and the karaoke starts with my nieces, there’s zero chance I’ll get a decent shot of the table!

There are so many shades of red to choose from but the best reds for a traditional Christmas in my opinion are a true red or a cranberry/deep red.

That’s why I chose this gorgeous true red and white floral tablecloth to be the showstopper of my traditional red Christmas tablescape.

While I love the versatility of a plain tablecloth, a patterned one is so visually striking that it instantly adds that wow factor.

This means you don’t need to overthink the rest of your table styling!

You can keep the rest of the set up minimal, and the table will still look stunning.

If you see something you love, pop it into a wishlist and wait it out. You never know when a good deal will come up! When it does, it’s already saved and ready to go. No stress, just checkout and done!

Brighten Things Up With Complementary Accent Colors

Before you deck the entire table in red, keep in mind that it’s important to balance the boldness of red with other grounding colors.

If everything is red, nothing will stand out!

Since the tablecloth had white accents, I used my white scalloped dinner and dessert plates to match.

Initially, I’d skipped the gold chargers, but I realised the plates looked a bit flat against the patterned background.

That’s when I realised the whole setup needed a little metallic warmth.

I added gold chargers and gold utensils to lift everything up – and boyyy, it made such a huge difference!

To finish it off, I brought in these fun black glasses with squiggly stems.

The small pop of black made the whole look feel more modern and allowed the red and gold to take center stage.

If you’re not sure which colors to pair with red, you can’t go wrong with gold, white, and green!

These are the ultimate classic color combos for a traditional Christmas.

Budget-friendly table styling tip: You don’t need to splurge on fancy glassware or designer side plates to create a beautiful table setting. Some of my tableware like glasses or dessert plates are actually thrifted/vintage. Mixing and matching different styles can make your table setting feel more welcoming and less formal too, especially during the holidays.

Dress The Table Up With Traditional Centerpieces

The best part about creating a traditional red Christmas tablescape is that there are so many fun and festive red Christmas centerpiece ideas to choose from!

Since both of my nieces are under five, I knew I needed something kid-friendly – nothing too fragile here!

So, I styled my centerpiece around a small tabletop Christmas tree placed in a gold plastic vase (both were from Ikea and cost less than USD25 in total!)

I decorated the tree with red baubles that looked like mini disco balls and tied a deep red ribbon at the top instead of using a star.

To complete the look, I flanked the tree with two red nutcrackers.

Even though the color palette, tree, and nutcrackers are all classic Christmas elements, the disco ball ornaments and whimsical touches made it a fun and festive Christmas table.

It felt traditional but still playful – perfect for a family-friendly holiday meal!

And, yes, there was still plenty of space on the table to serve food!

Budget-friendly table styling tip: When shopping for ornaments, plastic ones are usually the most affordable. But, that doesn’t mean they have to look cheap! My trick is to look for plastic ornaments with interesting textures or finishes. That’s why I chose a hammered gold vase instead of a plain one, and tiled red baubles rather than flat gloss. Details like metallic finishes, ribbed textures, or matte surfaces can instantly elevate the look, even if the materials are inexpensive. You can also mix different finishes (matte, shiny, glitter) to create dimension and give your red Christmas table decor more visual interest.

Sprinkle In Personal Or Vintage Touches

Want a fuller, more textured look? Combine two garlands with different finishes for a layered effect that feels lush and luxurious.

In 2021, I decided to go for my first neutral Christmas tree.

On my tree, you’ll see a mix of classic gold baubles along with star-shaped and teardrop ornaments.

Adding variety (especially ones you love) keeps things interesting and make the tree feels personal.

To keep everything looking cohesive, I stuck to a palette of three main colors – white, gold, and brown.

However, I made sure to mix in different shades and finishes to keep it interesting.

You’ll find a blend of matte gold, sparkly gold, soft white, dark brown, beige, and even hints of bronze throughout the tree.

This way, it still feels unified, but there’s still enough variety to add depth and texture.

And let’s not forget the magic of mixing textures!

I layered a variety of pieces – from delicate glass baubles to cute mini ceramic houses and little paper Christmas trees.

Adding these different textures brings so much visual interest to the tree, giving it so much character and personality!

If you have kids, here’s a tip: make sure to place your glass ornaments towards the top where it’s harder for little hands to reach!

It keeps them safe and ensures the delicate ornaments stay in place, while still letting the tree look fun and playful.

For our tree topper this year, I went with a kitschy, white felt star that felt perfect for this whimsical Christmas tree.

Actually, the star is too small for the tree, but hey, anything goes!

The best part of decorating this way is that there are no rules. And, I love how it all came together, imperfections and all.

A Modern Traditional Christmas Tree

This modern traditional tree is a complete contrast to the one I did the year before!

For this look, I started by layering gold beaded garlands to add a touch of elegance.

Then, I added white and gold baubles in different sizes and textures – some smooth, some sparkly – to give the tree a lovely, balanced feel.

It was so fun to create something a bit more classic, while still keeping it fresh with those modern touches.

My favorite part of the entire tree has to be the white and black ribbons I added.

I just love how they bring a subtle feminine touch that makes the tree feel extra special and beautiful.

The only thing I’d change is the black ribbons. They blend in with the dark green branches and you can’t really see them in photos.

If I could redo it, I’d go all white and double up on the ribbons to give the tree even more impact.

For this tree topper, I went with a gold star frame since I was leaning towards a more traditional vibe.

The best part about this neutral Christmas tree?

It required minimal effort to pull together. Plus, everything was super affordable!

Honestly, I’m so happy with how everything turned out. It’s one of those trees that just feels timeless and simple yet stunning.

A Unique Floral Christmas Tree

I hadn’t planned on doing a floral tree, but when I spotted these gorgeous flower picks at my local store, I was instantly sold.

They were simply too beautiful to pass up!

It definitely doesn’t feel like a traditional tree, but flowers for Christmas? Groundbreaking!!!

The key to putting together this floral tree was mixing and matching blooms of all different sizes and adding in a variety of picks.

It all comes down to two key elements: the color palette and the decor choices.

I always go for neutrals because they create a calming foundation for everything that follows.

Then comes the fun part – decorating!

I always dig through my holiday boxes to find treasures that remind me of Christmas, like cherished ornaments collected over the years.

The best part? You can make this setting uniquely yours without spending any extra money.

That’s right! I want all of you to get creative and use what you already have to create a beautiful and meaningful gathering space for your loved ones.

Elevate your everyday tableware

For the place settings, I used my everyday plates, which are just simple white dining and dessert plates from IKEA that cost less than $2 each!

Both the plates and glasses are part of my starter kit from when I moved into my apartment six years ago.

They may be plain but they are practical and work perfectly for any occasion.

I hope this shows you that you don’t need expensive or brand-new tableware to create a beautiful table setting.

To bring in a little flair, I added my favorite gold flatware, which really makes the table pop!

Honestly, investing in gold flatware has been one of my best decisions.

Whenever I’m unsure, I always remember to incorporate color and texture.

For me, the color green instantly brings Christmas to mind, so I decided to layer a sage green napkin on top of the dining plate.

Then, I added some texture to the place setting by using a hyacinth placemat and a matching jute napkin ring.

Simple accents like a placemat or napkin ring can tie the entire look together.

This time around, I chose to skip the tablecloth and went for a white checked table runner instead.

The table runner is the perfect foundation for arranging my greenery and centerpieces, because the white checked pattern provides a clean backdrop that lets each element stand out.

To add some contrast, I included a mini wooden Scandi-style Christmas tree and a gold tin house that lights up (can you believe this house used to be a cookie tin?)

To make things feel even more festive, I scattered a few gold sparkly baubles along the table.

Other Christmas table decor ideas I love include Christmas villages, candleholders, and garlands.

These little touches add so much warmth and cheer, making it feel extra special for the season.

Fragrant eucalyptus, pine branches, or delicate sprigs of holly, not only look stunning but also fill the air with a delightful holiday scent.

Plus, fresh greenery is sustainable and biodegradable, which is a wonderful bonus!

Speaking of fresh greenery, I tucked a few sprigs of baby’s breath into each napkin ring.

I love bringing a bit of nature’s charm indoors, and I thought this little detail would add a simple, elegant touch to each place setting.

It feels so fresh and delicate, giving the table that extra special feel without much effort!

Finally, I draped a faux garland over the artwork on my dining room wall to make the whole room feel a bit more festive.

These photos don’t do the vibe justice, but this setting looks even better when the garland and candles light up at night.

It feels like a scene right out of a holiday movie, and I absolutely love how cozy and inviting it makes everything look!

Minimalist Christmas Home Tour

After using the same holiday decor since 2015, I was desperate for a change.

I’m constantly trying to build an intentional and sustainable home; so I decided to switch from a traditional red-and-green theme to a neutral minimalist Christmas theme.

Although the decor looks more subtle, the house still feels warm, cozy, and inviting.

I chose white, gold, green, and wood tones because these colours are classic, and that means I can re-use my Christmas decor year after year.

Minimalist Christmas Tree

Our minimalist neutral Christmas tree is THE showstopper in our home.

I used the same artificial tree we’ve had since 2018 but changed its placement this year.

I wanted to make a grand statement with the tree; so I shifted it from a corner in the dining room to the top of our built-in nook.

It looks AMAZING – I don’t know why it took me so long to do this! The tree is now the first thing I see when I enter our apartment.

Honestly, I didn’t have a game plan when it came to decorating the Christmas tree.

Instead of going with a theme, I referenced my colour palette and bought ornaments with different textures, shapes, and materials.

I love a traditional tree but I wanted something whimsical and organic this year.

The result is a mish-mash of ornaments that still looks cohesive because of the neutral colour palette!

I also paired the tree with a black woven skirt to add contrast. It’s the first time I’ve used a tree skirt, and it really was the BEST. DECISION. EVER.

Since we don’t have a mantel, I stuck a simple hook rack next to the tree and hung two chunky knit stockings. How cute!

Minimalist Christmas Living Room

With the tree being the main focus of the living room, I kept the other areas minimal.

I added new floral, plaid, and textured cushion covers on the couch.

As for the coffee table, I laid a wooden tray that held a basket of gold baubles, a wooden tree ornament, and two taupe pillar candles.

Despite using simple objects, the contrasting heights and textures made this minimal setup visually interesting.

I also made minor adjustments to our daily TV console decor.

I swapped the artificial fern for a mini tree and decorated it with white ceramic baubles on one side.

On the other, I added a maroon honeycomb paper tree for a pop of colour.

The final (and cutest!) touch was the Christmas village placed at the centre of the console.

Minimalist Christmas Kitchen

This spot was my second favorite space to decorate after the tree. I was already thinking of the fun I was going to have styling my kitchen shelves!

For the upper shelf, I came up with a Christmas village theme.

So, I laid some faux tinsel before placing a group of ceramic houses, a wooden house, a bicycle, and a pair of bottle-brush trees. It’s all about the details here!

For the next shelf, I kept it fairly functional. Our plates and mugs remained.

I added some amber bottles and a ceramic pestle and mortar for visual interest.

But, the REAL highlights here are the wooden houses and a beautifully-handcrafted brass watering can.

Finally, I kept the kitchen counter bare with just a Christmas sign, a faux mini tree, and a wooden pedestal holding a sole ceramic house.

Then, I made a few tiny tweaks to our everyday essentials like the soap dispensers and tea towel to match the overall theme.

Minimalist Christmas Bedroom

I wasn’t planning on decorating our bedroom until I received these gorgeous sage green sheets from Sunday Bedding (check out the feature they did of me here!)

The sheets just screamed HOLIDAY, so I immediately replaced our existing sheets in time for the festive season.

I wanted the rest of the decor to compliment the sheets, so I layered an artificial garland across our bedframe.

I also added a couple of fun ornaments like velvet hearts, gold stars, and a mini tree on the garland.

Since the garland isn’t pre-lit, I strung some lights over the garland.

What’s a Christmas bedroom without twinkle lights, right?

Next, I placed a mini tree on one of our nightstands and laid a gold tray on the bed.

The final touches were two pre-lit ceramic houses and two gold bottle brush trees on top of the tray. Bring on the lights!
