There’s something so elegant and special about a black and gold combo.
When I designed this minimal and classy black and gold tablescape, I knew it would look great for special celebrations like birthdays and New Year’s Eve.
I know what you’re thinking – how can a tablescape look minimal and classy at the same time?
Well, my #1 tip to create a classy tablescape is to avoid excess clutter. After all, a clean, minimal setup allows each element to shine.
But minimal doesn’t have to mean boring! The secret to a visually engaging tablescape is to use different textures.
The depth and character from the blend of textures will elevate even the simplest setup!
That’s why you’ll see that I love to mix and match different textures in all of my table settings.

A Minimal And Classy Black And Gold Tablescape
This may come as a surprise, but the inspiration behind this black and gold tablescape actually comes from the playful black squiggly stem drinking glasses I received as a gift.
They’re such a fun and quirky statement piece, but I wanted to see if I was able to incorporate them into an elegant table setting.
To balance their bold and fun design, I decided to keep the tableware and centerpieces simple and minimal.
By using classic plates and understated décor, the focus remains on these unique glasses.
A Simple Black, Gold & White Place Setting
I layered my favourite white scalloped rim dining and dessert plates on top of the textured gold chargers.
Then, I added matching gold cutlery to make the look cohesive.
Some might think it’s too much gold, but I just love how it ties everything together!
To break up the metallics and introduce contrast, I placed a black napkin on top of the plates.
The black napkins help to add a bold pop of colour and just the right amount of balance to the overall design.
Let Black and Gold Shine with Neutrals
Black and gold pair beautifully with neutral colors, so I used my favourite beige tablecloth as the foundation of this black and gold tablescape.
This beige tablecloth is my go-to for a reason – it complements everything!
Plus, the neutral backdrop allows the black and gold dinnerware to truly stand out.
I love layering a table runner on top of a tablecloth because it draws attention to the center of the table, highlighting key elements like the centerpieces.
I used a brown table runner with gold embroidery to create a striking contrast against the plain beige tablecloth.
I think it really makes the centerpieces stand out. What do you think?
Classy Centerpieces Decor
For my centerpiece, what could be better than a classic combination of a bouquet of flowers and elegant candle holders?
I opted for faux flowers with a moody pop of color and arranged them organically, so they would look more natural.
I truly love the pairing of flowers and candle holders – it’s so simple yet pretty and impactful (even from a distance!)

It’s All In The Details
When it comes to minimal tablescapes, the magic truly lies in the details.
For instance, I chose ceramic napkin rings featuring the words “love” and “wish.”
They were originally sold as Christmas décor, but their generic message allows them to be used year-round, making them a versatile addition to my table setting.
Another thing I love to do is to use serveware that features intricate details. For example, this pair of serving utensils come with a unique handcrafted woven design.
I always go for pieces that don’t appear too polished or perfect because I think their flaws are what give them their charm and character.
My tortoise shell jug remains a staple in almost all of my tablescapes!
The classic print is timeless yet special; I find that it always adds a vibrant pop to any table setting.
