Why use a mattress topper?
Despite our guest bedroom mattress being six years old, it hasn’t been slept on much.
I knew I didn’t want to be wasteful and get a new mattress. But, I wanted to make it more comfortable, and a mattress topper would be a quick and effective fix.
A mattress topper essentially transforms your existing mattress by giving it extra comfort and support.
Since our current mattress is too firm, adding a mattress topper gave it more cushion.
Besides that, a mattress topper also protects your mattress from stains and sagging, which helps your mattress last longer.
Why the Joey Mattress Topper?
Material
Choosing the right material for a mattress topper is extremely important.
I prefer memory foam mattress toppers because it offers additional cushion and support.

Thickness
Compared to other mattress toppers in the market, the Joey Mattress Topper is extra-thick with a height of 6cm (2.4 inches).
Since my latex mattress is very firm, the additional thickness of the mattress topper makes the bed feel plush.

The downside to memory foam mattress toppers is that the material usually retains body heat, which makes them warm to sleep on.

This makes the material cooler to sleep on, which is perfect for our tropical weather.
Delivery & Setting Up of the Joey Mattress Topper
Similar to my first Joey experience, delivery was prompt and seamless.

Setting up was easy and can be done solo, even with the queen-size mattress topper.
Just like their mattress, the mattress topper was vacuum-sealed and rolled in their signature blue box.
It also came with a complimentary blade to remove the plastic wrapping, which was super convenient.
Once the mattress topper was unwrapped, it took about 10-15 minutes to inflate.

What I love about the Joey Mattress Topper
The right firmness
Since our latex mattress is very stiff, we needed a mattress topper that was soft yet firm.
Cheap mattress toppers are usually made from microfiber or polyester, which looks soft and plush but can sink and go flat over time.
That’s why we decided to go with the Joey Mattress Topper, as the foam blend has just the right amount of firmness and cushion we like.
Stays put on the mattress
I love that the Joey Mattress Topper comes with 4 stretchy and sturdy elastic bands.
As someone who moves a lot during my sleep, I’m glad that the bands keep the mattress snug and tight on my bed.
This means my guests can sleep without any interruptions, as there won’t be any shifting or movement from the topper.
Compatible with all mattresses
I was initially worried that the topper would not fit our mattress, since a mattress topper of the wrong size would cause the bed to be imbalanced.
But, I was relieved to see that the Joey Mattress Topper fit perfectly!

What I didn’t like about the Joey Mattress Topper
Creasing
I love the sleek denim on the sides of the mattress topper but I experienced the same creasing issue with my Joey Mattress.
It’s not a big deal, but the OCD in me wishes it looked sleeker!
Can’t be folded and tucked away
Unlike microfiber or down mattress toppers, the Joey Mattress Topper cannot be folded and tucked away.
This doesn’t bother me since we are going to keep it in the guest bedroom, but you may want to take note of this if you have a smaller home and like moving things around.
Overall Experience
I’m glad we came across the Joey Mattress Topper because we can adjust the comfort level of our existing mattress without replacing it.
And, a mattress topper is significantly cheaper than a brand-new mattress.
All in all, using a mattress topper is great for the wallet and the environment.
I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking to transform their bed on a budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a mattress topper the same as a mattress protector?
No, it’s not. While a mattress topper can protect your mattress against stains, it’s not 100% effective since it’s not waterproof.
On the other hand, a mattress protector protects your mattress from liquids that can stain your bed, but it does not provide an additional layer of cushion or support.

Can I use a mattress topper on a worn-out mattress?
I’m not a sleep or mattress expert, but I think a mattress topper is most helpful if your mattress is too soft, too firm, or too hot.

For example, if you can feel the mattress springs poking you, or you can feel lumps and bumps in your mattress.
