The Ultimate Guide To A Neutral Boho Wedding Theme

Neutral Boho Wedding Theme

It’s our first wedding anniversary! Who would’ve thought we’d marry during a pandemic and live our first year together in a perpetual lockdown? Sounds crazy, but we did it and we survived! In honor of our special day, I’m going to share one of my favorite parts of our wedding: our boho wedding theme and decor.

The Ultimate Guide To A Neutral Boho Wedding Theme

CHOOSING A BOHO WEDDING THEME

Step 1- Reflect on both of your personalities

It was very important for us to choose a wedding theme that reflected our personalities. Right off the bat, my husband and I agreed on hosting a small wedding. We knew we wanted an intimate yet carefree celebration. Besides celebrating our union, our goal was to have a good time with our loved ones!

With that in mind, we chose a boho wedding theme. We liked the idea that a boho wedding meant having an unconventional and laidback affair. My husband and I are very easygoing by nature; so it was great knowing we didn’t need to adhere to any traditions and we could make this day as fuss-free as possible!

Step 2- Set a budget

No matter what theme you choose, it is imperative to set a budget for your wedding decor. The great thing about a boho wedding theme is that it doesn’t have to cost that much! Boho weddings are not about over-the-top florals or excessive decor. On the contrary, you’ll often find couples embarking on DIY projects together for their boho weddings!

Since we didn’t hire a wedding planner, my husband and I could afford to put a little more money towards our decor. We initially wanted to attempt a few DIY projects but we had no time due to our busy schedules. Additionally, we didn’t want to add to our stress; so we decided to leave it to the professionals and hired a decorator who could thankfully work within our budget!

Step 3- Identify your must-haves

Thanks to Pinterest, there are countless wedding themes and decor ideas! If budget is a concern, stick to three must-haves that will set the tone of the wedding. Think about what will bring your wedding theme to life!

I knew I wanted to be surrounded by nature. So, my list of must-haves included a garden ceremony and lush florals. My husband was on board with my ideas as long as the overall decor didn’t look too feminine. Since I wanted the decor to represent both of us, I surprised him by incorporating the bar into our decor because he’s a huge fan of whiskey!

BOHO WEDDING THEME DECOR

Venue

With any wedding, choosing a venue is probably the most important (and nerve-racking!) decision. Since a boho wedding theme usually revolves around nature, having an outdoor ceremony was a non-negotiable for me. Thankfully, we managed to find a beautiful garden for the ceremony.

Although we wanted to host our reception outdoors, we knew we had to consider the comfort of our families. Hosting the wedding outdoors in a tropical climate can be uncomfortable especially for the elderly. So, we decided to host our reception in a hotel ballroom that matched our boho theme. We loved the hotel’s exposed beams and wooden accents!

To keep with the boho theme, we decided to bring the ‘outdoors’ indoors by creating an enchanted garden vibe in the room. Our decorators turned our vision into a reality by pairing lush floral arrangements with tiny LED lights in clear acrylic towers. The final result was simply stunning!

Color

Boho wedding themes typically include colorful decors like mismatched rugs and bright wedding bouquets. I love color and my favorite color is pink. On the other hand, my husband is a minimalist who loves monochrome colors.

As a result, we met in the middle and decided on a neutral color palette of cream, nude, terracotta, and gold. Not only did my husband approve of the color scheme, but we thought this color combination would make our overall decor look timeless.

Stationery

If my husband called the shots, he would’ve eliminated stationery. He’s a tech man so he believes everything should be digital! But, I’m a romantic at heart and I appreciate beautiful stationery.

So, we reached a compromise by doing a little bit of both! We created a wedding website to replace a traditional wedding invitation suite. On the other hand, we printed our seating chart, menus, and table numbers for the reception.

When it comes to stationery for a boho wedding, the texture is key. We kept our design minimal but foil-stamped our names and printed them on linen paper to add texture.

A friend designed our stationery suite for us but you can get something similar here.

Flowers

Floral arrangements in boho weddings are usually unstructured and voluminous. That’s what I love most about a boho wedding theme!

Although I didn’t request specific flowers, I told our decorators to make our arrangements look as lush and organic as possible. They used roses, pampas, dried palm fan, anthurium, amaranth, and phalaenopsis in our color palette for the ceremony and reception.

Seating

I love the idea of everyone sitting at a long communal table during the reception. Unfortunately, the ballroom was too small to accommodate the layout we wanted.

Ultimately, we decided on a long head table to accommodate our parents and ourselves. Meanwhile, we settled on round tables for our other guests. We got the best of both worlds by combining both types of tables!

BOHO WEDDING CEREMONY DECOR

Wedding planning is a long process but I particularly enjoyed conceptualizing our boho wedding theme and decor. With that, I wanted to share a round-up of our ceremony and reception decor.

You may notice we don’t have a wedding cake or escort cards but we wanted to invest in decor that felt most meaningful to us. Besides that, we also worked with mostly local vendors; all my vendors and similar sources are linked below so you can recreate the look for your own wedding.
