My Ikea Furniture Pick For Entryway – Besta
The Besta sideboard is the newest Ikea addition to my home.
I was looking for the perfect console or sideboard for my entryway, and unfortunately, most of the furniture pieces I found were too long or big for my small entryway.
I finally chose the Ikea Besta because I could customise the storage combination to ensure the length fit our tight space.
Plus, the customisation allowed me to mix and match cabinets and drawers, which worked out perfectly because we now have sufficient space for our entryway essentials like keys, bags, shopping bags, umbrellas.
The best part about the Ikea Besta storage system is hands-down the number of colours and designs you get to choose from.
I wanted something textured and in wood tones to match my current living room decor, so I paired the white stained oak frame with fluted (Björköviken) drawer and door fronts.
Pros
- Able to create different storage combinations
- Comes in plenty of colours and designs which you can mix and match
- Affordable
Cons
- The Björköviken drawer and door fronts were out of stock for so long
- Drawers do not align perfectly

My Ikea Furniture Pick For Home Office – Linnmon Tabletop + Alex Drawers + Mittback Trestle
This was my first home office set up when we moved in six years ago.
Since I’d been using a similar set up in my previous workplace, I knew I could replicate this cute, cheap and durable combo from Ikea.
The Linnmon tabletop is great for creatives because it’s huge and it costs less than $20. It also comes in two colours – white and black.
Since I needed storage space for things like stationery, documents and files, I opted for the Alex Drawers and Mittback Trestle instead of traditional legs.
I’ll be honest – the trestle is definitely for aesthetic purposes because it doesn’t hold much.
The Alex drawers, however, are amazing for storage. The drawers glide in and out easily, even after six years!
Pros
- Looks modern and sleek
- Large and wide tabletop
- Affordable
Cons
- The tabletop is not nailed down to trestle or drawers so itmay shift from time to time
- Tabletop can get scratched from daily use

My Ikea Furniture Pick For A Closet – Elvarli
I’ve always dreamed of having a walk-in wardrobe, and having the Ikea Elvarli storage system felt the closest to having one!
One of the things that drew me towards the Elvarli system is the clever use of open and closed storage.
I love seeing my clothes hanging in my wardrobe so having an open wardrobe was a no-brainer.
In fact, this set-up only had two large drawers and two small drawers when we first moved in.
Soon enough, the open wardrobe became a little too high-maintenance for me. But, thankfully I didn’t have to purchase a new wardrobe because all I had to do was add drawers to the Elvarli system!
Pros
- Able to customise the wardrobe according to your needs
- Looks modern and sleek
Cons
- Difficult to dismantle drawers if assembled incorrectly
- Cannot change knobs
- Rubber rings around knobs turn yellow with time
My Ikea Furniture Pick for A Vanity Table – Kallax
One of my top 5 Ikea furniture picks is the Kallax. This is not my first and it definitely won’t be my last!
I was looking for a vanity table that combined open and concealed storage (I swear this is the recurring theme for all of the furniture pieces in my home!) but couldn’t find one that I loved that was within my budget.
After five years of living without a vanity table, it finally hit me: why don’t I just find something simple and affordable on Ikea?
The Kallax is absolutely perfect if you want a combination of open and concealed storage.
For now, I fitted my Kallax with four drawers and two small cabinets, which has sufficient storage to accommodate my makeup and skincare.
Should I ever need more concealed storage, I know I can always add on drawers, cabinets, or even cute baskets later. That’s the beauty of a Kallax!
Pros
- Easy to install
- Many colour options
- Able to change knobs and handles easily
Cons
- None! (I truly love the Kallax!)
My Ikea Furniture Pick for Storage – Billy
Of course I had to include the super popular Billy book case in this list!
I know it’s named a book case, but the Billy is so versatile and can be used to store all sorts of things.
I use mine to keep all of my bags, but I’ve seen friends using their Billy book cases to store spices, jars, in kitchens and pantries.
The glass doors protect the bags from dust and dirt, but they still give me a clear look of all of my pretty bags.
My only regret is not buying the Billy in this beautiful oak colour and pairing it with elegant brass knobs!
Pros
- Comes in many colours
- Versatile
- Sturdy
- Affordable
Cons
- Sometimes the doors can’t shut tightly (especially on one side)
Conclusion
I know Ikea furniture doesn’t have the best reputation.
Some people think they’re low quality furniture. Some think they look basic and boring.
Whatever people say, I’m a huge Ikea fan because I love their clean and practical designs.
Plus, they make basic furniture you can elevate by using different types of clever hacks available here.
